Codeine

Codeine is often used with ibuprofen or paracetamol in OTC treatments and is seen as a strong painkiller. Such a combination gives the advantage of a drug that works on the pain receptors in the brain as well as one that works at the site of the pain. It is good for chronic pain, often associated with dental surgery (e.g. after the removal of wisdom teeth), back pain and migraine related pain.

Codeine can be given from 12 years of age onwards at the recommended dosage.
